Let's make some brooches

Hello peeps. I've been making Suffolk Puff brooches to sell at the Christmas Fair. Easy to do if you want to give it a go.
Looking in my bit box for small items to put on the front.

Colourful cotton fabric works best, trying some satins and silks.
I've run out of clasps, need to buy some more, 18p each.

Keeps me busy, weather not too good again.

I've been pondering about my next art project, had a bit of a creative blockage, today it suddenly hit me what I have to do. It's the wire church window which I was going to use for the lollipop trees, but didn't. I was thinking about the view I might see if I was looking out through a church window, countryside, trees, garden, flowers. I had three pieces of fabric which might be suitable, now I have chosen the one I am going to use. I can see what I want to achieve. Best make a start.

  1. Its amazing just how simple these are to do.I didnt realise until I tried it myself and they can be made so quickly...which is just my sort of crafting, lol.A great way of using up your small pieces of fabric, odd buttons and look so lovely when they are pinned on to a dress or denim jacket.Ive got some hanging from a Christmas garland that goes around my curtain poles..not up yet but ready for December!.If yours are going on your Christmas fair stall along with your little lanterns, your stall will look fantastic!.I can imagine it with a single trail of fairy lights gently lighting up all the lovely things for sale.xx

  2. What a good idea to use brooch backs! They would also be lovely to decorate a bag. Thank you for the idea. Jane

    1. Yes, they could be stitched onto anything, don't need to be a brooch.

  3. I once made some dolls with these suffolk punches, I made loads of them and strung the arms and legs on elastic, god knows where I got the patience from. lol
These should sell well, I can see them on the lapels of coats now.

  4. I was in Hobbycraft with my daughter yesterday and found a Suffolk puff kit for the bargain price of £9.99! I had no idea one needed a kit, I have made hundreds over the years without one. It truly is amazing what some people will buy.

    1. I get them from a department store with a large haberdashery department, called Boyes. Look for a branch here.

      Looks like mostly South Yorkshire.
Or try any haberdashery shop, or sewing shop.

    2. Thanks for that info, we don't have a Boyes here I don't think, but I will try the Grainger market in Newcastle. They are such a lovely idea for little gifts.😊
