Let's smooth things over ;o)

Hello. Time to lighten the mood and move on. What's your favourite fruit? I particularly like soft fruits, easier on the old teef, don't take much chewin. I like them mixed up a bit as well, I like making smoothies, seeing what works together. How about grapes, kiwi fruit, tinned mandarins, strawberries, and a banana. A good combination don't you think?
There's a whole lot of goodness in there, this is my five a day covered. My jug is empty, it was lovely.

Are you feeling fruity? What are your combinations to make a good smoothie?

A short one tonight, my head is hurting from all the moderating. I need to go outside.

Thanks for popping in. We'll catch up soon.

  4. I love smoothies too. I am anaemic so have to stuff a lot of green stuff inside me. Accordingly, I am sick to death of salads with kale so I bung kale in with soya milk and blueberries (or any other soft fruit that is on sale). I ALWAYS add a banana (for sweetness and thickness). I also add a pinch of ginger too (I have ginger powder but fresh would work too). I sometimes add protein powder when I feel a bit naff (not too much as it is not very nice). They are very handy. 8. I'm on my 8th week of my 8 week diet and have used lots of fruit. I like purple and red fruits best as you get more for your calories!! Favourites are blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and cherries. Pomegranate pips are nice but quite calorific. I have them on Greek yoghurt.

    1. I love those too. I had absolutely no idea that pomegranate pips contained a high amount of calories (that explains quite a lot!!).

  9. I love mangoes! Fresh, juicy and ripe ones, can't stand the hard ones. I've recently started having smoothies using spinach as a base. They are really nice and actually don't taste of anything. I had kale one time, instead of spinach, and that was hard work!! Yours looks lovely Ilona, xxxx

    1. I put kale in a stew once, it stayed hard and I ended up picking it all out. I won't buy kale again.

    2. Mine was blended in the smoothie but still really chewy! But I didn't want to waste so I ploughed through it like the trooper that I am. Only took me three days to finish the darn thing- I genuinely felt like a hero afterwards!

  10. on a similar note,
quite often I take left over veggies, potatoes, and maybe the odd bit of meat (hardly much), and blend it all to make a "hot smoothie soup". Gotten to quite enjoy it, especially with a bit of pepper on top/grated cheese/ hot peppers etc..Also freezes well, for a quick snack/meal. Good with any bread/dried bits too.

  11. I don't tend to make smoothies, but I love a ripe banana whizzed up in milk for a real banana milk shake. But I will try your suggestion of those lovely soft fruits, and as you say, easy on the old gnashers!

  12. I love cranberries and always make my own cranberry sauce at Christmas. I enjoy plain yoghurt with a banana, sultanana and cinammon on top for puddings. I don't tend to have smoothies that often myself, but my youngest loves them and I make them for him for breakfast. He has everything from kiwi, banana, apple whatever is in the fruit bowl.

  13. Fruit smoothies are a great way to get alot of fruit in without chewing all day. I love blueberry, cherry, banana, peach, mango, and strawberry smoothies.
I, also, really enjoy vegetables juiced. My favorite combination is kale, spinach, carrot, apple, and celery.
Your blog is one of my favorites.

  14. I do not make smoothies, but I am a big fruit eater. I love oranges, apples, blueberries, strawberries, pears, peaches, plums, grapes and bananas. I like watermelon, honeydew and used to like cantaloupe but can't seem to buy good ones anymore - or maybe I am just not letting them ripen.

  15. My favourite fruit is lychee. The period to eat fresh lychees is quite short though (December to February).

    1. I would never have thought of adding dates. Might try that.

    2. Thanks for that Emma. I love bananas and don't really like dates (my partner loves them) as I find them too sickly. However, the thought of the two together is very appealing.

    3. I have to avoid dates as I've discovered that eating just one date has the same effect on blood sugars as a whole punnet of strawberries (irrelevant though to non-diabetics!)

  17. Your smoothie looks delicious. What liquid did you put in - did you use water or juice? Been snowing here tonight, very cold.

  20. I make blueberry, strawberry and banana smoothies. I put a little plain greek yogurt in with some soy milk and blend it all up. It's my favorite smoothie. Love the sound of yours too! Think I'll try it. Arlene from NJ (US)

  21. From Margie in Toronto - I think the only fruit(s) that I don't eat are oranges/tangerines/mandarins and it's not because I don't like them but I break out in hives (a fairly common sensitivity - have to be careful with grapefruit and tomatoes as well) - besides a nice crisp apple, I love all berries and a cantaloup melon when its juicy and ripe - also hard to beat fresh pineapple - I just love fruit.
Favourite smoothy is banana, strawberry and mango with a bit of juice, yogurt and squirt of honey. I usually have 3 to 5 servings of fruit each day.
