Bored

Can't find any enthusiasm for anything, I don't like this time of the year. The waiting for Christmas, it bores the pants off me, heading towards the end of the year, and cold damp weather. I shall be glad when it's all over. I say that every year, I want to hibernate. Let's just get the shortest day over, and turn around and go back towards spring.

Carol singing last night on the village green around the tree, only it wasn't around the tree it was around the beer and hot food tent. I went along to show support and have a cup of hot mulled wine, only it wasn't hot, it was luke warm. Such was the demand, the heater couldn't keep up with it. Not many carols were sung, I tried but gave up, because most people were eating and drinking and chatting. Christmas songs were played over the speaker system, no one taking any notice. At least it wasn't raining. I made a video but it was crap so I binned it.

I've been going into my friends house and feeding her fish while she is away. Came a cropper, tripped over one of the many plant pots around her garden. Went sprawling, bashed my shoulder and ribs, ouch. Sore for a day or two but getting better now.

Cat news, Oscar is coming in a bit more often now, sometimes stays in all night. I am the door person opening and closing it whenever he gets up and wants to go out, and looking for him in case he wants to come back in again.

January the 1st will cheer me up, a new start, a brand spanking new year, and lots to look forward to.

  2. I am glad you are feeling better Ilona. I agree I am looking forward of this year finishing, one reason is I am starting a new crochet blanket and I have had the first year from living in my new home so now I can see what I can plant in the next few months.

  4. Hi Ilona, I think a lot of people feel a bit down at this time of year. I definitely have all my adult life I think, especially in December, but I always put a brave face on and join in, like you and enjoy Christmas. I shall be glad to be honest when it's January 1st.

  6. Know what you mean - it can be an awful time of year - we don’t celebrate it - we buy the grand children a present as they expect it but that’s about it.
But if you want a funny story Cannock Staffs where I live had a light switch on - all the fair stalls etc but the council couldn’t afford any lights or tree so there was nothing to switch on !!!

    1. Ha ha, that was funny. There was a tree problem up here, Grimsby or Cleethorpes I think. A gifted one came from Norway, but it died, so they had to get another one and start again.

  9. Hi,I can only imagine what it must be like to have Christmas in winter as its midsummer here and very hot most days as we are in drought. Yesterday was 38 degrees celsius and stifling , I look forward to the summer solstice so the days start getting shorter and cooler. I love reading your blog.

    1. I don't know why we have to have Christmas at all, except for religious reasons to celebrate the birth of Christ. We can be nice to people all the year round. I think birthdays are a good excuse for a knees up.

  10. Ilona, I feel the same way....it just seems so wrong to feel this way about what is supposed to be a joyous time of year. I know once the day is past I will feel better. It always works that way for me.
I think your cats are adorable. Will have a tot of brandy and read. It does help!

    1. I don't think it is wrong to say you don't like Christmas. I would rather be honest with myself, and other people, and say what I think. It is wrong to pretend, and go along with things, just because everyone expects it.

    2. Agree with being honest (your honesty is why I read this blog) as I think there is undue pressure on people to be happy this time of year and that can make you feel worse especially when you see the adverts on the television with everyone playing happy families - grrr .... Life is not like that I am afraid.

  11. This time of year can be tough for many people. Xmas lost its shine for me a long time ago and I go along with it less and less each year! My reasons are varied and I'll keep them to myself. I don't rain on anyone else's parade, each to their own, but I do wish other people would respect the need that MANY people have to be left alone and 'for everyone to be able to do their own thing' over the coming week. I'm not a bah humbug type and have received several invitations to join family/friends on xmas day - I just don't want to LOL

    1. I think Christmas is for children. Buying presents for each other well into adulthood is just daft. Celebrating a birthday is more personal and meaningful. I have received one invitation over the Christmas period which I will take up, and have a nice day out.

  12. Ouch, hope you didn't hurt yourself badly. Although I love Christmas I always look forward to the turning of the year. New beginnings and the start of my garden springing back to life. The first miniature Irises appear in late January and it always gives us a thrill to see them popping up

  14. Hi Ilona, sorry you're feeling sore after your fall. I always dread new years eve and the first few days of january. Roll on spring and the light nights, these long dark nights are enough to make a saint glum.

  15. Never thought to see you start a post with "bored!"
Hope your get up and go returns very soon, it's not nice to feel low among the lights and carols and joy of Christmas.

  16. I've been feeling exactly the same this week.. blah. Can't wait for longer daylight hours; I hate it being dark so early up here in Scotland... wake up in the dark & chill; go to bed in the dark & chill.. Today am determined to get a bit of mojo back with a few self-set targets: a bit of overdue housework, write the last Christmas cards and this aft, a long walk to deliver said cards. Happy days!!!

  17. I now how you feel.
I 'literally' have to force myself to do stuff when all I want to do is hibernate, mind you it makes me feel better at the end of the day to see what I've accomplished.

  18. I want to hibernate too. I love Christmas but it's so dark and gloomy I really don't want to do anything. Anyway, now the shortest day is done with we can look forward to lighter days and better weather on the horizon. Thank you for all your interesting posts this year, and wishing you a very happy and productive 2019.

  19. I'm with husband in foreign country, far away from my family, our son and friends. I feel pretty awful. I understand that "Christmas blues" apearing in people's mind. Reasons are irrelevant, but blues is here.
