A look at a Craft Fair at Lincoln

Good morning. It's Easter Monday and I will have an at home day today. I've got some photo's sorted from yesterday so I will get them onto the blog.
I was at the Craft Fair at the Lincolnshire Showground yesterday. Bimbling around as I do. There is a cafe upstairs with a balcony to sit out on overlooking the showground. I spotted a lady who was wearing the most amazing multicoloured jacket. She was sitting at a table in the sunshine with her hubby. I couldn't resist speaking to her and asking about her fantastic creation.
So now I have a new best friend. Moira is from North East Lincolnshire. The conversations flowed. We got on like a house on fire, as the saying goes. Hubby is an ex trucker, so lots to talk about there. We reminisced about growing up as a teenager in the 1960's, the music we liked and the bands we followed. What a stroke of luck that was to meet Moira.
We are twins, two of a kind. 😍😎😝

Moira cleverly inserted a jokey panel into her jacket. My goodness, my hair needs cutting again.

Full size mirror to check one's appearance before returning to the main hall.
I took this photo at about 2pm, people have started to drift away. Next Sunday there is another Craft Fair at the same venue.
Another surprise. I was spotted by one of my yoootooob subscribers. How nice is that. A lady with her husband said hello. We had a sit down chat on the balcony. Sorry, I forgot to ask her name. A lovely couple. She showed me what she had bought, some lovely fabric. A keen crafter just like me.
Back downstairs in the hall my friend Sue Hawkmoon was strolling around with her hubby. I have mentioned Sue before, she does needle felting at her home in Brigg, and takes her stall around to Craft Fairs. That's how I first got into needle felting by taking part in her workshops. Here is her web site.
I didn't buy anything from the Craft Fair. It would be nice to pick up a few pieces, but I am not about to become a collector at my age.
It was mid afternoon, and it was sunny, so what to do next. I could go home, but then I remembered I was only a few miles away from a place I have been to before. I could go there for an hour.
Come back and I will tell you what I did next.
Thanks for popping in on this Bank Holiday Monday. Catch ya later. Toodle pip.   ilona

  1. What luck, you two ladies do look like twins. Sounds like a great day out so far. Anxious to see what you did next.

    1. It was a great day out. I made it up as I went along. Who knows where I will end up next. This is why I use paper maps.

  2. Craft fairs probably attract the same sort of people, crafty, similar age, 60's music, but a fellow trucker and the lady with her brilliant crochet jacket, wow! I don't have your confidence but even I would have complimented her. For you to be wearing your latest creation too, it was meant to be.
Glad you had a lovely day out.
You can't beat a good old crochet granny square.
    Do you crochet Ilona?

    1. Yes, I can. But I can't follow a pattern. It has to be something I made up.

  3. PS. That ET panel looks knitted, was it? Anyway, it's just given me an idea. I have knitted, but prefer to crochet. Years ago I inherited a big bag of yarn from my late mother in law and in it was a lovely knitted picture front of a child's jumper. Perhaps the child grew before the jumper was fished. There was no matching wool left but with the work that had gone in to making it, it seemed a shame not to use it.
I thought of framing it for a child's bedroom, but now I've seen that lady's jacket I shall have a think about incorporating it into my part made waistcoat or perhaps a crochet blanket if I can. It may be a problem as it's not square but has arm hole shapes and shoulders, but I shall see.

    1. Yes, it is knitted. She said the jacket is a mixture of knitting and crochet. She was going to use ET for something else, but then decided she would incorporate it into something wearable. I love the red frilly collar she has created.

    2. Just a thought. How big is the picture front you have made. If it is smaller than the waistcoat could you transplant the whole thing onto it, with the armholes and shoulders. It would be kind of quirky, rather than go to the trouble of trying to square off the edges.

  4. It's a young child's size. If it was bigger it could be used as a whole back panel. However, since I was hoping to incorporate it into a granny square made item, it would be easier if it were a rectangle. I've got several projects on the go, but the garden and other things are keeping me busy at the moment, so I'll take a look, but it will be a winter project.

  5. Just read your comment again and now realise what you mean by transplant, presumably onto the finished waistcoat. Quirky indeed!

    1. Yes, use it as a whole piece, no modifications. Assume the waistcoat and picture are both wool, use a crochet hook with fresh wool to fasten the two pieces together around the edge, picture on top of the waistcoat.

    1. Thank you. I talked that much I was beginning to feel worn out.

  7. Great that you met a likeminded person and had a good day out. You both look amazing in your colourful and funky clothing. I’ve also found a new friend - my late Dad’s new neighbour - wide awake and one of us.

    1. Isn't it a relief when you find out that someone is on your wavelength. No self censoring, being careful what you say, you can just be yourself. Makes conversations so much easier.
