North and South Carlton

Good morning. It is Monday. I was hoping to get this out last night, but ran out of time. I am finding that with the days becoming longer I am tending to stay outdoors longer. No need to rush back home. So when I do get home, I have to feed the cats and get my own food, then there is no more time left and I go to bed.
So, yesterday I went back to the Lincolnshire Showground for a craft event. Here is the link to the Crafterama web site. There are similar events around the country. A group of my friends from the Crafty Club were meeting up there. We had a right good chinwag, All sat round a big table, some of us eating our pack up, others getting in the queue to purchase their hot food.
I had a nice surprise. I was recognised by one of my yoootooob subscribers. Shelagh from Sheffield said hello. We had a lovely chat.
Also at the showground in the other hall was a Vintage Flea Market. So two events in one. Two entrance fees had to be paid. £5, and £3.50.
I had seen all I wanted to see by mid afternoon, so I checked my OS map and saw two villages not far away. Each had a church and a footpath that linked them. It was a beautiful sunny day so I have an hour to spare so let's do it. I parked next to the Church at North Carlton. The church of Saint Luke is a Grade II listed building dating from the 15th century, although it was largely rebuilt in the early 1770s.
North Carlton Hall is a Grade I listed building dating from the 16th century with many alterations and additions, particularly in the 19th century. This is the best picture I could get. It is way back off the road with a pond in front of it and trees surrounding the garden.
A farmhouse close by.

I took the track through the fields to South Carlton, meeting another walker coming in the opposite direction, south to north. A quick Good Afternoon from him, and a hello from me.
South Carlton church is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, and is a Grade I listed building dating from the 12th century with later alterations.
Around the back is an extension. Rather unusual but this church has gone through many changes.
It was a hot afternoon, I was hot, not complaining. Now is the time to search out some shade. Both churches were open so I could sit for a few minutes inside. On the way back, south to north, I came across the same walker. This time we had few minutes chat. It turns out we were doing exactly the same thing, but the opposite way round. He had driven from Lincoln and parked at South Carlton. Walking between the two churches. What a coincidence. I love my brief chats with strangers.

That was a nice ending to the day. Back home for 6.30pm.
Thanks for popping in. See ya soon. Toodle pip.   ilona

    1. Hello Mandy. You will find that I don't go too deeply into the history of places I visit. I am not a walking version of google. Computers are for that. I like places that tweak the emotions, and are interesting to look at.
