Coffee chat. Look what I found.

Hello. When I posted about the walk I did on Sunday, there was a little bit of the story missing. I thought I would put it into a video. I was walking along the road back to my car, when I came across a pile of fly tipping at the entrance to a field. Bits and bobs laid around on the ground. I had a look through it, and rescued some items to bring home.
Snuggy warm PJ's. They were soaking wet, and a bit grubby from being chucked on the ground. I washed them in a bowl of hot soapy water, then they got a second wash in the  machine with a load of pants, socks, and t shirts. I think I will keep them.
Perfectly good mugs, no chips or cracks, a good scrub up and they are ready to go. I will pass them on.
I think they call this a lava lamp. The light heats up the oil and the blobs float to the top and drop down again. It was in a wet box and looked brand new, still in it's packaging. Plugged it in and it works. I will find a home for it.
Lucky me, eh. I always keep my eyes open. Thanks for popping in. We'll catch up soon.  Toodle pip.   ilona

  1. Well done on rescuing those bits and keeping them in circulation. I brought home a load of tins of soup from a client today. He'd been clearing out his kitchen cupboards following his recent bereavement and didn't like this sort. They ran out of date in Jan 2021 and the food bank wouldn't therefore take them. I said I'd pass them on to the community fridge instead as they only deal with out of date food, so they'll get dropped off next week. He thought he was going to have to throw them away. I hate waste! Arilx

    1. I think that's a good system, Briony. Here they prefer to get a skip and dump stuff in there.

    2. People put stuff on the grass verge in front of their house here. Anyone can pick it up and I've found some nice stuff for the garden recently. I joke and say that my neighbours gardens are moving up the road one piece at a time

  4. Essential items only in Wales - we need (because we have just moved house and there is no bathroom cabinet or storage) some bathroom storage and a new linen basket. Can we buy them, apart from on line? Nope. Not joined-up thinking . . .

I like the cat mug and the lava lamp maybe the cat mug might look well in your summer house or kitchen window? the lava lamp is cool i think i would keep that if you have room in your in home as i love the purple colour but if anyone else can have a better use well pass it on teens or younger kids tend to like them in their bedroom. the snake mug is ok but the least favourite here lol. Well done on getting your bill finally sorted its frustrating hanging on for calls and the getting off but your sorted. x

  7. Why do people fly tip? They could have all gone to a charity shop. Surely it's just as easy to drop them off at a charity shop than sneakily dump them.

Or if they must be dumped what's wrong with a dustbin.

Anyway, the pyjamas look really good.

  10. nice pyjamas :)
My youngest loves lava lamps, but for a long while they were hard to find around here, but I eventually found one and gave it to him for Christmas a few years back. Imagine my disappointment to find it lying covered in dust and a spill of something, on the floor under his couch. I like them too, but don't feel the need to get one.

    1. I don't feel the need to buy anything except food at the moment. The lava lamp is nice because it was free.

  11. Those PJs were a good find, and not just for Christmas! Unfortunately, the charity shops are all closed and therefore can't take donations, but people are impatient.

  13. This is the sort of conversation we have in our house!.I have argued with British Gas,on the phone for the last 2 years, every winter because they put my Mams direct debit up £60 a month...without asking...just telling by letter. She has never owed them a penny and what she already pays, covers the bill. Why should they hold my Mams money when she doesnt owe it them?.I get it sorted..then within a few months they do it again!.They said that they anticipate that my Mam will use that amount..so I asked them for this weeks lottery numbers,if they can anticipate them?.They make me so mad!!..Anyway,getting back to your lovely finds. You got some great stuff!.I was lucky last week because on my walk,I went past a shop that was closing down and they were dumping a big wicker basket, along side the rest of the fittings in there.I asked if I could make use of it please and they were glad that I took it because it was one less thing to take to the skip.I hate useful things going to landfill. It now sits in my living room with fleece blankets in and 2 cats laid on top of it.xx

  14. Fantastic finds. Well done for rescuing. When my brother lived in Germany, he said there were set days when you left your unwanted stuff outside your property for other people to take. At the end of the day, the council bin men collected anything left and took away. It was like a massive free car boot sale several times a year. Wish we could organise the same in the UK.

  15. Well those PJs were made to you ha! what a find. Love the idea of leaving things outside property as stated above in germany.

What a wasteful society we are just dumping perfectly good items
