NHS Selling Access to Your Data

Hello. The NHS want to collect your data and make it available to third parties. They say it's for research and planning. You have to opt out by the 23rd June if you don't want that to happen. BlackBeltBarrister tells you how to do that.
Just found out that this has been put back to September. There is a petition saying it shouldn't be an opt out, but it should be opt in if you don't mind them sharing. You decide if you want to be on the NHS Digital database. At the moment you can opt out on this web site.

TO CLARIFY. The NHS Digital database has been put back to September 30th. This is the new one which will be made available to third parties. The NHS National Database is still in existence. If you have opted into this your records can only be shared within the NHS.

  1. Thanks for this Ilona. I'm glad it's been delayed. Let's hope in that time we get some transparency on what third parties can access this. I have no problem helping the NHS with my data but am sceptical about who else might access it.

    1. I have opted out via the form on the screen. Things may change in the next few months, they may have to change it to an 'opt in' selection, if enough people create a stink about it.

  3. Outrageous! Thos needs to be well publicised. Im sure most people will opt out if they are aware there is a choice.

    1. We are not patients of the NHS, we are commodities to be exploited. Selling information is big business and the HNS are hoping to cash in on this. It is following a pattern which can only lead to full privatisation. Look how we are being bullied into getting jabbed. They have spent a shed load of money on the chemical they call a vaccine, the push for us to take it is relentless.

  4. Outrageous indeed. I have already opted out.

  5. I have also opted out. I don't trust them no matter how much they protest their innocence in selling off your data. I think there are 2 opt outs - NHS Digital and GP records, correct me if I'm wrong.

    1. You are right. The opt out of GP records happened some time ago but it wasn't made very clear at the time. Now they have added the opt out of Digital records so the two can be done at the same time. We will have to see if they change their minds before September 1st, and change it to an opt in.

    2. The two can't be done at the same time. Online opts you out of NHS. To opt out of sharing your GP records you must do an Opt out 1. This is a paper document given to your GP. This is very important. If you have only opted out online you haven't opted out of sharing your GP records
