One is not enough

I see Mr B has got things under control.

Don't worry, the more variants they find the more masks you can wear. The only risk to yourself will be dropping dead from lack of oxygen.

  1. Actually these masks can affect the breathing of some people with a lung disease. As I have this and told the practice nurse I found it hard to breath with a mask but thought it was psychological she confirmed it was because of the restricted air flow and not 'all in the mind'

  2. Yes i agree Sally i have sinius problems and i find i get headaches if i have one on a few hours while out shopping or if i use public transport as i don't drive but don't use the buses trains much as i am close to a Tesco store Boots and a few others classeT esseential that are allowed to stay open. I feel like i am breathing in fabric and my glasses fog up so i am taking them off and wiping them. The headaches are not so bad lately may be i just adjusted more? i don't know but i cannot wait for the day we can be free of masks and some of this as many people are experiencing depression anxiety and other issues because of this pandemic and its not being addressed and most help for these services are over the phone or zoom if you are lucky. If they think i am wearing a double mask they can take a hike i am bad with one and struggling. Shopping has become a chore and not enjoyable and like you Ilona i try keep shopping to once a week at off peak with few around. I live in Ireland and now like UK we are being told that it will be another 6 weeks before any changes will be made. As if this is not going on long enough. Doing the same thing expecting differant results.

    1. Hi Ilona i would not be surprised if come march 5th our government tell us that the covid numbers are still not going down enough or not enough vaccines now it seems we have a shortage and one vaccine is still under trial. for those who think that taking a vaccine will bring you back to a near normal life as before you may be in for a shock. I am not sure if coivd was planned but the great reset has been for years now and the covid pandemic has given them more power to carry out their new world new reset plan. Masks restrictions and social distance is here for some time it doesnot matter how many get the vaccine the next big thing is to tackle global warming and population control. they have even hinted strongly that these restrictions are likely to go untill 2022 ot will not stop this year. This is not a conspiracy theory there is information on the internet and lots on youtube. Klaus Schabb is head of this with many more super rich backing it bill Gates being a big player in all this. Vaccine should be a choice but it won;t get rid of covid and it may still be passed on but might relieve the symtomns so you won't get so sick. They don;t know yet if it will even and for how long. what i don't accept is governments pushing and forcing this on people and threaten them with no jab no travel or entrance to certain place or venues unless you have your card to prove you had it. I did my reseach like you Ilona and this is not just about a virius the evidance is there. Scuse the spelling mistakes i lost the post last i spell checked .

Yes true it does not have to be so bad and we should and can have a say if more of us are willing to question and stop being so trusting of the powers that be its all in the open now but as you say people are desperate but there is always hope it all we have for now and try not to let it get us too down xxx

  3. I feel like every time the numbers start to drop, they come up with something new to frighten us and force tighter restrictions. Why don’t they just tell us all to pull a plastic bag over our heads and have done. That would get the numbers down permanently. Sorry, that was some serious snark. I’m just cranky about the whole thing. And I’m not ratting out my neighbors because that’s just wrong. Do we really want to live like that? Have we learned nothing from history?

  4. There's no way I'd wear a double mask - I wear a mask for my weekly shop and that's it, straight off my face as soon as I'm out through the door. Wash it when I get home then put it away ready for next week. I carry an alcohol spray in my car and spray my hands before and after going into the shop. Any other restrictions they can shove them where the sun don't shine. Xxx

    1. I went to the Post Office this morning. Pulled my scarf up over my nose. Came out gasping, was only in there two minutes.

    2. You sound a bit melodramatic.. you came out "gasping for air" after a couple of minutes?

As far as I'm aware you've never mentioned having a medical issue e.g. asthma, and if it's just something you just don't like doing, then if you wore them more often you'd probably get used to them, at least to the extent you can tolerate them for a couple of minutes. I mean school kids were wearing them for much longer periods and they just got on with it... no complaints or histrionics as they knew they were for the greater good.

    3. ‘Feeling distress’ at wearing a mask is actually in the government guidelines, on the government web page, as a valid reason for exemption.

Yep, and that's why you see loads of people not wearing masks in shops, because anyone can say they "feel distressed" (whether they do or not) and don't have to prove it.

    5. Actually, anxiety amongst school children is at an all-time high. Facial skin disorders are rife, and I'm not talking about the usual acne problems. Bacterial infections are through the roof. Masks are routinely thrown into overflowing bins, or discarded onto the floor. And as 'gasping for air' being melodramatic, I can assure you, it's not. I've had the same experience in a hot shop and I genuinely thought I was going to pass out. And, no, I don't have any medical problems either.

    6. Liz - anxiety in children at the moment is bad because their education has been disrupted so much, having to self isolate, not seeing their friends, not mixing between bubbles, uncertain plans for their exams - it's not simply because of face masks. And if people wash their face masks after use as directed or use disposable ones there's no issue with skin problems.

And as for the whole gasping for air thing, it's a good job most people are resilient and made of stronger stuff.

    8. Claire, while you clearly have strong feelings on this subject, perhaps you could try to think about being a little kinder to those unfortunate enough to have conditions you don’t understand. If you’ve never had claustrophobia to a debilitating extent, or suffered from panic attacks, then you can’t understand them. I presume you would not treat someone with a physical condition that you have not personally experienced in this way? mental health conditions are not a form of weakness, or someone not being “made of the right stuff” - that’s a very spiteful and unnecessary thing to say. Absolutely nobody should be claiming exemption falsely, but to bully those who DO a have genuine reasons doesn’t reflect well on you, does it. Perhaps time to take a look at yourself and reflect on why causing distress to others clearly brings you so much pleasure, and whether perhaps that might not be a sign of a mental health issue in itself?

  6. I work in an office in a hospital. I have suffered with asthma since I was eleven. I am allowed to wear a face shield instead of a mask when I'm typing for any length of time however I wear a mask in the corridors when I'm in contact with patients or visitors. I think this is reasonable. My face shield is so light I don't even notice it. I hadn't used to wear a mask when shopping I do now ...purely being selfish as I'd rather not breathe in other people's germs, and funnily enough, this winter I haven't had a chest infection. So I've got the situation to work for me.

    1. It is Ilona's personal business whether she decides to get it or not.

  8. Of course it is your business if you are having the vaccine or not.

I asked as you are very anti mask wearing and the more people that are vaccinated then the more chance we have of the requirement to wear them being removed.

  9. Ilona, I think you have stirred up the hornet's nest! ;>) You hang in there thinking for yourself. It's a lonely place to be but eventually everybody will catch up with you.

  10. Hi Ilona. Sorry there are so many negative comments on this subject. You have stated before that you always wear your mask when you go in stores or are around people so I don't understand why people are upset with you. I wear a mask when in public but do have trouble breathing with it on so double masking is not a possibility for me. I hope they don't make that a law where I live. Blessings to you.

    1. Hi Sharon. You are mistaken. I don't wear a mask. I go shopping 7.30 - 9pm when there are no others in the store. I am never around people, I keep well away from them. I chat to people in the street, at a distance, that's all.

    2. My mistake. Would you mind explaining why you don't want to wear a mask? All the stores here where I shop have signs no mask no entrance. I wear mine to protect myself and to protect others in case I am a carrier and don't know it. All my family and friends wear masks and everyone I see wears a mask. Blessings to you.

    3. It's not a case of don't want to, I can't. Although I don't have to explain myself I did a blog post about it here.

    4. I understand Ilona. Maybe to protect yourself you could buy a clear face shield. I see people wearing them here in the states and they are considered a face covering at least for now.

  11. The masks give me a scratchy throat, kinda ironic i thought...and if this is meant to be about a virus whats with all this other nonsense headlines like covid criminals or covid marshall i mean really...Louise

    1. The scratchy feeling in your throat can be from inhaling fiberglass from the mask itself or any fabric particles that it is made of. A 100% cotton mask is the best if we react to fiberglass or polyester masks

  12. I'm an expat living in Israel ... our daughter is a nurse in a COVID-19 ward at Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem. The patients she is serving are extremely ill, and many do not survive. Those who do suffer very serious damage to circulation, lungs, heart ... the list goes on.

Her ward (usually a general internal medicine ward) was the eighth to be flipped over to COVID-19, and Hadassah just opened a ward specifically for pediatric patients. Babies and toddlers who are very sick. At this point her hospital, one of the biggest in Israel, is close to stopping admissions.

She and her colleagues wear masks throughout their shifts. It's unpleasant and uncomfortable, but it saves lives ... theirs, and those of other people. If they can wear them for an intense eight-hour shift, we can wear them to go shopping.

Please, wear a mask. Give people some distance. And if you're able to get vaccinated, do so. There are no reputable healthcare workers who will disagree with that advice, and they're all following it themselves. That's how we'll all put this behind us.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Come on. Health professionals wear them all day and don't drop dead from lack of oxygen. It's totally a non argument. Are they slightly uncomfortable? Yes. Do they reduce the spread of a virus? Yes.

You are lucky to be able to avoid people. My daughter is a 20 year old student who works 15 hours in Tesco. Lives in student accommodation would possibly be an asymptomatic carrier. Would you be happy with her working maskless and potentially infecting the late night shoppers like yourself.

This is no flu. The doctors are qualified enough to know the difference between symptoms of an influenza virus and a Corona virus. Have you seen footage of people gasping for breath, slowly suffocating to death?

The world is in a precarious state right now but wearing masks and social distancing to slow the spread of a virus are common sense public health measures.

RIP my mum's friends, a couple, the wife was my primary school teacher, who died in hospital from, not with, Covid within a week of each other. My heart goes out to their two daughters

  15. There was a hospital doctor on tv who had an oxygen meter on his finger,to test the lack of oxygen when wearing a mask. No difference in oxygen levels when wearing a mask so he put two on. Again no difference in levels. I agree they are a nuisance but health professionals and others in daily contact with the public have to wear them, so should we.

  16. Why are we all arguing about this? It's part of life and whether or not you wear a mask or whether or not you get vaccinated, life goes on. Each person has their own opinion. There's a who!e big world out there, nothing to do with Covid. People seem so wrapped up with this when actually there's far more important things to attend to

    1. I agree Linda its taking over everything and so many disagreements and disrespect. its up to each person to look after their health and make your own decision to take a vaccine or not. its not my bussines who does or doesn't. Life has to go on this is getting out of hand and there are other important issues out there. This is my last post on this. Wishing everyone well and spread some joy and do something daily that makes you happy or lifts your spirits x
