Price compare

I went shopping at Aldi last night, and took with me a list of items I bought at M & S, to buy the same things again and compare prices.

Fresh Tagliatelle M&S £1.80.... Aldi £1.39

Avocado twin pack. M&S £2..... Aldi £1.19

Courgettes M&S £1.30....Aldi £1.15

Lemon loaf cake M&S £2.25.....Aldi Walnut cake £1.05

6 FR eggs M&S £1.00....Aldi £1.15

Italian pasta salad M&S £2.40.....Aldi £1.49

Houmous M&S 79p (reduced)....Aldi 79p

Big bag cheese crisps M&S £1.50.....Aldi 89p

Small quiche M&S £2.00.......Aldi 99p

Spag mush bolognese M&S £3.75....Aldi £2.19

Two items not bought, creamy mushrooms and potato salad. I think it is quite clear that one should only shop at M&S if one has money to chuck away.

Thanks for popping in. We'll catch up soon. Toodle pip.   ilona

    1. No, I haven't eaten most of it yet. I haven't got time to go that deeply into it.

  3. Hi! Love your blog! I’ve been doing similar; I bought some Lidl pillow soft luxury loo roll as a comparison to Waitrose essential - 50p cheaper. Oh my, it almost cut me in half lol! I did ring customer services and they have issued a refund. You can’t go wrong with yoghurts etc, they are actually nicer.

  5. A few very wealthy people I know always do a main shop at Lidl and Aldi. Then they just use tesco or asda to buy a few things they can't buy there like branded coffee or washing liquid. A carrot is a carrot wherever you buy it

It is amazing how much of a price difference there is between different stores. I would make some of those from scratch and save more money.

  7. Did you check the weight? Aldi tends to fill their packages with less of the product then f.i. Lidl. I always compare the price per kilo.
Besides, lovelovelove your more critical blogs. I tend to talk to people I meet in the supermarket and I notice that so many people are seeing what really is happening!
    thank you!

  10. Aldi here in Houston, Tx, has had some significant price increases in the last few months. Two of the items I buy are their brand of evaporated milk which was 68cents and is now .98, which is not much less than Carnation brand. Also their canned mushrooms used to be .44 cents and are now .88 cents. Fruit of any kind is off the wall high as are their veggies.
However I am always amazed at the final tab when I check out - always much lower than the other grocery stores and I don't see much difference in quality.

  11. I do all my shopping at Aldis, but first I go to foodshare and get a bag of free food, (its all about stopping it going into landfill) then a 'too good to go' bag of food for £3.09 and I pop into Lidl's to get one of their food boxes for £1.50 (the last one I got was fantastic, enough lovely fruit and veg to last into the following week). After that I make my shopping list and I only have to spend around £20 - £30 and that includes cat food. I like Aldis food but my cats don't - I go to B&Ms for that.

  12. Aldi is definitely cheaper in my part of the US but we still have to go to other stores since they don’t carry everything
