Sharing the garden with nature

I have a wild flower meadow in my garden. I stopped mowing there to let it go back to nature. Mostly yellow flowers, but I like to see them waft about in the breeze. I trim the tops of the surrounding bushes keeping the height down, but allow them to grow sideways creating the backdrop for the flowers. I will probably mow it just once towards the end of summer. I am not a fan of immaculate picture perfect gardens. a little bit of messiness is ok with me.
Every morning the birds are waiting for me to appear at the back door. As soon as their breakfast is deposited they tweet like crazy as they dive down and tuck in. The bowls of water are very popular, for drinking and bathing.
The hedgehogs come for food every night. I keep an eye on them before I go to bed. I can tell they have been overnight by the amount of poo I pick up in the morning, and the empty saucers are stripped bare of their contents. Best get them plumped up ready for their winter sleep.
This morning it looks a bit dull outside, I will give it an hour to decided whether to go a walk or not. Last few days of the month to pull in a few more miles.
Someone sent me a comment saying I post crap. I published it here. My question to them is why are they reading my crap? Some folks are not very bright.
Thanks for popping in. We'll catch up soon. Toodle pip.   ilona

  1. In the past I’ve followed your blog with much interest
It has been intriguing and quite entertaining .
But your views about government are rather bizarre and somewhat childish .
It wouldn’t surprise me at all if you don’t publish this because it is an honest critique of your opinion.

    1. Surprise surprise, I have published it. Now can you tell me who you are, or are you too much of a coward to reveal that information? Hiding behind a keyboard is rather pathetic. I come clean with you, now you come clean with me.

  2. But you do post absolute rubbish sometimes, so they're factually correct :) Maybe you need to pick up some new hobbies!

    1. Whoooohooo, we're on a roll. It's raining outside so lets turn this post into a 'slag off ilona' session.

  3. It's lovely to leave some areas to their own devices. I am doing it at home with a sloping area that is frankly a pain to mow. The yellow looks nice and vibrant. Cheers, Karen

    1. Thank you Karen. Mowing can be a chore, so if I can reduce the time I spend on it, I will do.

  4. Well you can't be that surprised with some of the comments you get ever since you decided to switch to full on conspiracy theory mode..

    1. No, not surprised at all. What does surprise me is that people haven't woken up, or prefer not to wake up, to the fact that the conspiracy theory is no longer a theory. It is all being played out right in front of our faces. Nothing is hidden.

    2. Very odd way of having 'fun'. Think you need to get out more.

    3. Bloody hell, I'm out nearly every day. Just finishing lunch, the rain has stopped and the sun is shining. Looking like here's my chance for a walk.

    4. I'm still walking and chatting too Ilona -and when I see the option of a hilly bit- I take that instead to push myself a bit x

  7. I'm all for free speech, but if people don't like what you write, they don't have to read it or be bothered about it.
I've started leaving the lawn a bit longer between cuts to let the wild flowers grow. The birds love them! We have a stone table for the water trays (large plant pot trays) and love watching the birds have a bath and a drink. Keep on keeping on, Ilona!

  8. So many people are excited by trolls - they are mean cowards and not worth the time. I totally agree with the theory that if they don't like what you say they should just move on. I really dislike petty whiners!! Love reading your blog

    1. Thank you Anonymous. Trolls hunt in packs. They play 'follow my leader'. One makes a comment and others can't resist jumping in.

  9. LOL you're the biggest troll out there, as well as being a hypocrite, but you don't like do be called out when it happens. Tough shit. I know you've mysteriously deleted blog posts in the past when you've been caught out, I can remember at least five such posts.

    1. You are a little bit obsessed, aren't you. May I remind you that it is my blog, I could delete the whole lot if I wanted to. I will ask again, why do you keep coming here if you have suck a dislike of me? And by the way, how can I be a troll if I put my name to everything I write?

    2. I think you need to first go and look up the definition of a 'troll'..

    3. Hiya, you're back again. I'm here all night if you want to keep up the banter.

    4. What on earth is wrong with some people Ilona?-Trolls are such troubled souls x

      Delete
    5. No not banter, it's challenging you on why you think you can't be a troll if you say something publically with your name. It shows you don't have a clue what the word means lol

    6. Ha ha, Anonymous, you make me laugh out loud. You are such a hoot. Please don't stop commenting, I like your jokes.

    7. Hey "Anonymous", I looked up the definition for ya cos it seems you don't know the definition. You don't honestly believe a troll is one of them creatures of myth that live under a bridge now, do ya? We've come a long way since then, I tell ya. Thing about words is they often have more than one definition. Here's the links to what the rest of us mean;

Ilona- love your blog, trolls and all.

    8. The thing is Cindy, everyone has their own narrative. Words can have different meanings, and be twisted to suit the agenda. The woke brigade will try and steer everything in one direction, their direction.

    1. That's fine by me, Anonymous. There are no rules saying you have to read all of it, or even any of it. Although this started out as a frugal living and money saving blog, after ten years I no longer have to monitor my spending quite as closely. There are others you might like to try. Thank you for your comment.

  13. Ilona, I have read your blog for years and have recommended it to people as well. You are one of my ''go to'' blogs each day. I enjoy your outlook on life. Don't ever change.
Maybe I don't quite agree with everything you print, but I still think I have learnt lots from you and you have given me things to think about. Everyone needs people in their life who think slightly differently at times.
Unless of course you are one of those people who make sure they are surrounded with clones of themselves-very boring but keeps them feeling safe and superior to others.
Ah well, enough said about them.

Oh my! What a lot of comments this one caused!

Your blog, you right to write what you wish and publish which comments you wish. Also people’s right to comment as they wish but they should know it is you right not to publish any that you don’t like…which is EXACTLY what you say below. If you don’t like someone’s comment you won’t publish it.

Perfectly fair game to publish only what you like. If I recall, I have been in the receiving end and you haven’t published some of my comments on cash vs direct payment - I have no problem with that. As you say it is YOUR blog. If others want to express views that are contrary to yours they can start their own blog.
