First night out for ages.

Yesterday was a haircut for me, then a dog walk, then a bath. Leaving it till the last minute to get ready for the 'do' at the Arts Centre. What to wear, just grab anything out of the wardrobe. Angela came with me. Her getting ready routine is much the same as mine. She came out of the garden 20 minutes before I was due to pick her up. Even so, she managed to put her lippy on and paint her nails at the front door.

On arrival we were greeted by a table laid out with drinks and nibbles. There were three types of vegan snacks. Two of them were little envelope type parcels stuffed with something or other. I am not familiar with this type of food. One of them set fire to my mouth, a samosa I think they call it. I only ate half of it and asked for a glass of orange juice to cool down my burning tongue. I won't be having that again. There was a plate of what looked like testicles. Little balls of something beetroot coloured. They were very nice. We juggled food in one hand and drink in the other and made our way to the main hall.

Dominic the boss introducing the sponsors and handing over to one of the judges to announce the winners. No prize for me, booohooo.
The prize winners gather for a group photo. I tried to get the photographers interested in taking my photo, but they weren't having any of it.
The exhibition finishes soon and I have to collect my pictures next week.
I called in at Aldi on the way home. My fridge is now stocked up. I noticed that the shelves were looking a bit bare in places, but I suppose that is to be expected, Friday is usually a busy shopping day. I was going to get some extra virgin olive oil but there was none. It seems that it comes from Russia, and they are a bit busy at the moment. The fruit and veg department was looking a bit bare. There was enough for what I wanted, and Billy's mum had already paid me with a bag of veg anyway. I have enough.
Not quite so warm today. I have a couple of ideas of what I want to do, so I'll see how the weather pans out by lunchtime.
Thanks for popping in. We'll catch up soon. Have a good weekend.

  1. As far as I know, Russia does not produce olive oil, except for a very small pocket in Crimea. I think there are two possible reasons for none on the shelves - Ukraine was the world's biggest exporter of sunflower oil, but obviously exports of that have been dramatically hit by the war, so people are turning to other oils. Also, a couple of years back, a lot of the olive trees in Italy were ravaged by disease which led to extremely poor harvests, with supplies down the line dwindling. I expect it to rise in price very soon if you can get it at all. British rapeseed oil is a lot better these days than it used to be, so that could be an alternative. Just my thoughts :)

    1. This is a fun post sprinkled with a few tongue in cheek flippant observations. You had to drag it down the 'OMG that's a lie, I had better put her right about that', route. Brownie points for you. Recognise a joke when it is something said in jest.

    2. I didn't realize the olive oil bit was a joke either - it must have been just to subtle for some of us. :) Ah well. Glad you had a nice time at the event. - Christina from Indiana

    3. I should have said Ukraine, but what does it matter. It's the war which has caused the shortage.

    4. After reading the science, olive oil and all other oils no longer play a part in my diet. Even extra virgin olive oil is calorie rich and processed (crap), 40 calories per teaspoon. I still like olives in my subs from that well-known sandwich maker, Underground (translated from American), just in case this is like the BBC, and no adverts are allowed. Just trying to maintain the fun aspect of these posts.

    5. You just dragged yourself down trying to defend yourself over what you thought was a bit of fun when it was just a piece of confusing twaddle. I thought you were always banging on about the truth lol Lost yourself a reader, I won't be back.

  2. Hello Ilona
Very pleased with myself today as instead of throwing food away I have sorted through my fridge. Everything I can save has been washed trimmed and bagged up for use next week.So extra lunches for work always a saving and I now have adopted the discipline of freezing more food especially things like bits of cheese and not wasting bread. Thank you for educating me. I so appreciate your sound advice which is much needed in these times of rising prices. All the best to you and the cats X Jo in Coventry.

  4. So wishing you would have won an award. If they only allowed you to describe how pieces came to be and what you repurposed to make the beautiful artwork. Oh no bother, we know who the winner should have been. 😊😊. I know it has to be a thrill to see your pieces on display. Congratulations!!!
