Walking Group check in. 1st of March

Good morning, the weather has changed again, a bit dull for the next few days, and no sun. Not to worry, I have plenty to do here.

So it's the first of the month, and we all know what that means. Check in time for the International Walking Group. I hope you are all sticking with it. The first couple of months are crunch time, when the novelty wears off and realisation sets in, Do I have to do this for the whole year? Well yes, if you want to achieve your target at the end of December. The effort you put into it now will pay dividends later. The object being that looking after your health can literally extend your life.

So how have I done for the first two months, the target being 168 miles. I am a teeny weeny bit behind due to the dangerous conditions of walking on compacted snow and ice. However, once the weather picked up I was out every day. My finish miles are 162, so not much to catch up, and it was a short month. Three more days and I would have nailed it.

Pictures from the archives. Walking in Windermere.

Glorious views. I hope I can go there again. Click on a photo to make them bigger, and a slide show will come up.
Now it's up to you, please check in with your miles. We want to know how you are progressing with the challenge. You can come back to this page at any time.
Thanks for popping in. Time for brekkie. Toodle pip.   ilona

  1. Morning and happy 1st March - almost Spring! Due to our Scottish lousy weather I've hardly been able to get out at all. Adding up my miles, it's similar total to last month of 19miles, so that brings 2month total to a measly 38miles!! However i found a very good FREE app to use which even works on my ancient moby.. it records steps, distance, calories and sets goals acc to your weight & height BMI, Pedometer Step Counter in Googlestore. Happy Spring walking (or should that be 'springing'!).. Gillian

    1. Hello Gillian. Your free app sounds like a good idea. Maybe transfer the information to a paper diary.

  2. Good morning (at least it is morning here in Brazil!). Pandemic restrictions mean my totals are still low. I can´t remember how many miles I had for January, but with February it comes to 50 miles altogether. I´ll make sure I make a note in future...

  3. Hello Ilona and fellow walkers, I started walking again after I returned home on February 21st.
Every day a slow short walk of 1-2 kilometers, which makes a total of 65 km. for these two first months of the year.
So glad I am on the mend and walking again. Working slowly towards my daily 6 km. goal.
Looking back on that bad fall with my bike seven weeks ago I am so glad and grateful I was fit and healthy at that time, which was absolutely beneficial to my recovery.
    Cheers!

    Jeanneke.

  4. Nothing to add for this month, the snow 15 inches deep does not allow much walking, plus my left hip has been giving me a bit of a pain, possibly for sitting down and not walking.
Snow is gradually melting, so hopefully March will show an marked increase in the miles.

Great job to everyone that was able to rack up those miles.

  5. I've only been managing about a mile a day recently, so that adds up to about 60 miles.

  7. Hello Ilona and fellow walkers, I have managed to stay on track, completing over 103 miles in February, making a total of just under 222 to date. There have been some fabulous days recently so I was disappointed to see mist and murk this morning but still managed over 4 miles. Keep on going everyone and (hopefully!) enjoy seeing spring unfold on your walks. Vicki

  8. Hi Ilona,
I believe it was your anniversary somewhere in January, am I wrong? I saw nothing about it, but I have a memory don't know from where, that it was on January. If so, accept my congratulations, they are still in time, right ?
I also restarted my walkings, I was obliget to stop, had a problem with the back of my right knee, some months ago, only now, I am feeling better. Slowly, each time a bit more, almost a year confined, we have to go slowly! All the best for you and friends!

  10. February was a cold, snowy month here. I'm at 200 miles total. I love your photos. We did a three three day walk starting and ending in Windermere. On the last day we took the last boat across the lake back to Windermere. One of my favorite stops was Grasmere for the gingerbread--yum. Also liked the village where Beatrix Potter had an office. Hawkshead, maybe?

  12. Hi Ilona.
I've done 86 miles in Feb which makes a total this year of 164 so far. Hope to keep on track as some lovely weather recently. Best wishes to you and everyone.

  13. Slowly but surely building back up. Some days I feel back to usual, but then I inevitably do too much and pay for it the next day. Managed 121 miles in Feb though, so total for the year so far is 227 miles.

    2. Doing my best but I have itchy feet! Ha ha. Had a good walk two days in a row today and yesterday and feeling not bad. If it continues, perhaps I'm over the hump. ;-)

  14. Thought I had checked in Januarys klms, but obviously not. Not sure what I did wrong. I have done 219 klms in January and 219 for February as well (if I had planned that, it wouldn't have happened lol)so up for a total of 438 klms of my goal of 1930'ish klms for the year so far. Very happy with that. Weather is up and down, we are now into Autumn with its unpredictable patterns, where days can be as hot as summer, but then an arctic blast makes us think it is Winter already!! I just love it.

  16. I'm checking in with 51 miles for February. Kind of short on the monthly goal. I was short for January as well, and have made a plan for March and April to get caught up. I need to keep in mind that on those days where I walked 3-4 miles I felt great both physically and mentally.

February was very snowy here in West Virginia, but I was able to do 43 miles. That makes my total 99 miles so far. I look forward to getting back on the rail trail in March. We are lucky to have a lot of parks and trails around us here. Have a great day!

    Hi Ilona,
Sorry to be a day late. Well, my walking is improving! Yeah ;). My torn meniscus in my knee is very slowly healing (almost a year now). Am heading to four miles a day this month to make up for a slower start.
    Feb miles. 73.
    Year to date. 129

  24. Hello Ilona,
You have done well to catch up on your miles.
Everyone seems to be conquering the weather, various illnesses and damaged limbs with the group's usual determination.
I have been a bit of a wimp while the temperature's been so low but hope to improve on my averages as the months become warmer.
At the end of February my total so far is 130 miles so my target of 1000 miles is a long way off!
Take care everyone and enjoy this month's walking.
    Sue
